Sharing of Resources

The RFA announcement makes clear that resources must be shared and communicated rapidly, and we strongly support this view.

DNA probes and other biological, tangible materials will be made available to the nonprofit research community under standard material transfer agreements (including the Uniform Biological Material Transfer Agreement that the University of California is a signatory to) unless their derivation depends on a right that is already proprietary and covered by materials transfer agreement or other prior legal restriction.

We will use the general guidelines that have been employed elsewhere, namely that materials generated with substantial effort and shared before publication should acknowledge the contribution by co-authorship. This would not include DNA probes.
